Hi Liz, Today there are 6.22 certified Bob miles for you! Yesterday when we drove down to pick up our numbers, we took a drive to the start, At one point I exclaimed what the F! When I saw the crest of a hill, with a huge green field to the side of it. Well I was surprised, the race people did say it was flat and fast At that point I threw out any expectations of time, I knew it just couldnt be a fast one. Today I was up a 4, at my friend Bobs house by 5:30, and we were off. Made it to the parking lot, yes it was still dark, and breezy, and yes cold. Went to find a real bathroom, but was directed to the porta potties. Yum! That was cold and fun, but as I came out, someone ran up to me and askedare you Bob? yes!!!! I met Kristen and Christine! They truly made me feel special! With so much OutRUN excitement, this just had to be a great day. Then ran into Stacy, Tabitha, and Annemarie! Sunrise was glorious, the color of the golden light was spectacular over the ocean. Got on the bus, had to goof it up with selfies:) Not sure if the serious runners were amused, oh well, we had fun! Off in the distance we saw the flash of light from the light house. We started down the big hill wherethe bad boys are, guess its one step before jail. At the start it was chilly, missed the stretching class, but saw the Silhouette of about 500 runners dancing around. I was noticing the color of the morning autumn light on the tall green grass on the hill. It was cold, but it was beautiful. Forgot to say that at the start I met Sue and Michael! National anthem, managed not to cry. Go! And we were off. By .25 of a mile I have the distinct feeling of my underwear sliding down, Im mostly sure my tights are still up, so just keep going. At a half of a mile I was at a 9:30/mile pace, way to fast, calm down dude. Its hard to explain what it feels like to be passed by an endless stream of runners, while your pace is spectacular. (For you :) ) runner after runner went by, the miles started ticking by, my pace at the 5k mark was about 10:30, really happy about that, after all thats just a tad above my dream of a 30 minute 5k, and we are going up grade! The runners are spreading out now, every now and then younger, thinner runners are stopping and walking. One lady, just to torment me Im sure, keeps waiting for me to ketch up, and thats when she runs ahead. Theres a point that Im struggling, know Im slowing, and then realize, this is the big hill, and the top is right there! Its home free from here! Go down a bit, round a corner, and there is the ocean again, wow thats pretty, but crap its windy and chilly again. But the finish is about a mile and a half away, we got this. Almost to a building they call the towers, its sided with brown shingles and arches over the road. The running lane is marked with yellow green cones, and right in front of me someone has decided to park their car! Jump up to the sidewalk, get passed it, and step down, ankle was not super happy with that, note to self, next time, go around it. Get to the Towers, hey look, theres the photographer, quick, flash him an L! Came around the last corner, thought about Liz, and the OutRUNNERS, and smiled, 0.25 to go. See the timing mats, see Debbie, she is taking a picture for me, go for it! Cross the line, think the clock said 1:10:45, cant believe it, thats a 10k PR for me!! When they post it, will have to check the official time. As Im gasping, Tabitha yells, WALK! I do, then remember to stop my Nike app. This has been a spectacular day! Kristin says hi, I go to get a granola bar, turn, think I see her to say bye! Her hair is down, I get easily confused, by the time I figured it out shes gone! But one thing is for sure, at the Ocean Road 10k, OutRUNNERS were in the house!!
