Hi Melbourne friends. Ill be at CERES on Saturday for this [its so good to have a national permie-mag again :) ] Announcing Pip Magazine, Australia’s new permaculture magazine will be launched on 22nd March 2014 at CERES Harvest Festival in Melbourne. Pip Magazine’s aim is to inspire people to live more simply, yet more richly, by practising permaculture in all its many forms, and to do this by sharing stories, ideas and inspiration about living using permaculture principles. Pip Magazine is about life - growing your own food, eating locally and seasonally, living more sustainably and creating stronger communities. The magazine is independently published by journalist, editor and photographer Robyn Rosenfeldt who grew up in Melbourne but has since left to live the ‘good life’ in far south NSW. She came up with the idea of Pip while completing a permaculture design course two and a half years ago and it has been slowly growing since then. In the first issue there’ll be fascinating feature stories and hands-on behind-the-scenes articles with makers, shapers, visionaries and growers so don’t miss the first issue’s up-close feature with David Holmgren, the co-founder of permaculture who’ll discuss food security and the ethos behind permaculture. Permaculture is for anyone and everyone so there’ll also be simple but clever ideas such as how to grow your own shiitake mushrooms, create a food forest, herbal first aid, natural dyes and creating a clothes swap in your own community. Pip Magazine is not just another gardening magazine, just like permaculture is not just about gardening. Permaculture is a design system that can be applied to all aspects of life to enable us to live more sustainably. It starts in the home and garden and is about creating systems that are self-reliant. But it extends right out to broad acre farming, to community development and beyond. It’s been ten years since Australia had its own permaculture magazine and since then we have had to rely on overseas publications to learn about permaculture and hear what other like-minded people are doing. Today there is a new generation of people inspired by the message of permaculture and this has led to a surge of interest in its techniques and design systems. This passionate and generous community has also helped fund the start up of Pip Magazine, through the crowd-funding platform Pozible. Pip Magazine will be launched at CERES Harvest Festival on the 22 of March. David Holmgren and Robyn Rosenfeldt will launch the magazine at 11am on the main stage. (CERES: Stewart St, Brunswick East VIC 3057) Pip Magazine will be published twice a year and will be available at select newsagents and retail outlets and available online from 21 March at pipmagazine.au. It is also available digitally across all devices. The second issue is due out September.
