They want to create a Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) which will approve GM crops, without even considering your opinion or mine. The BRAI bill proposes to set-up a body that will allow GM crops in our country, without checking their safety.[1] Genetic modification of crops is a dangerous technology, being opposed by countries all over the world. Just last month, the Supreme Court appointed expert committee recommended a moratorium on field trials of GM food crops citing the potential danger of GM crops to our health and environment. [2] For three years lakhs of people have been protesting against GM crops and the BRAI bill and this helped delay the bill.[3] Yet the government wants to create BRAI and allow GM food in our country.
