Hi, a question for all of you tasting wine for professional purposes: Do you think blind tasting is the only silver bullet for reducing bias in judging quality? Im quite ambivalent about this question because I think that any kind of tasting is an epistemic act which is knowledge- and attention-driven. Thus, I might be able to reduce some kind of bias with this or that tasting method, but the choice of the method might influence the scope of information/purposeful searching ability. For example, if you know the grape variety and the producer of the wine in an open tasting format you might be biased because of a certain quality image in your brain which is just not to be found in the concrete wine; yet if you dont know any of these things you might not be able to taste in a goal-oriented way, not be able to validate whether or not the producer met his/her own standards etc. Would be really interesting to hear your thoughts and experiences.
