Hi all. A message from the Commissioner ... Today, Saturday 8 - TopicsExpress

Hi all. A message from the Commissioner ... Today, Saturday 8 March, is International Women’s Day. The theme for International Women’s Day 2014 is “Inspiring Change”. International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women and promotes gender equality around the world. For us it is a time to formally acknowledge the contribution of women, past and present, in all areas of the NSW RFS. Today’s NSW RFS has over 15,000 female members – more than ever before. These women are inspiring change by personal example, highlighting the roles and opportunities available to women in the organisation and challenging the public perception of emergency services as a male domain. Over the past twelve months we have introduced other initiatives to encourage more women to join the NSW RFS. The Flexible Membership Model is a long term strategy to ensure the membership of the NSW RFS is sustainable and reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. This was followed by the Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Kit, giving brigades practical tools that can be applied to increase their female membership and better use the talent, commitment and skill of women in their communities. I have no doubt that in the future we will see increasing numbers of women throughout the NSW RFS inspiring change, each and every day. You can read more about the valuable contribution women make in the NSW RFS in the publication ‘Making a difference: Women in the NSW Rural Fire Service’. Regards Shane
