Hi all! I am coming to my favorite group to ask some advice on a book I recently picked up. It is Fantastic Four 55 (Silver Age, Silver Surfer appearance) that is in pristine, amazing condition. Easily VF+ or VF/NM, but there is one issue. For some reason, a previous owner decided to line the inside front cover, at the top only, with scotch tape. I cant imagine why, as there are no rips, tears, etc, and the edges are perfect without the tape. Now, I know that the acidity of the tape is cancer to this book, and will do bad things to it over time, but I do not know what to do. If I try to remove the tape myself, I am pretty certain I will wreck that pristine cover. If I sent it to CGC or CBCS, how do you think they would grade it? Would they consider the tape amateur restoration even though it wasnt actually restoring anything? Do you think that professional work could get the tape off with minimal damage to the cover? Would it then be considered restored? Please, any advice would be greatly appreciated for this. I dont want to leave it as is, and have this book degrade over time as the acid ruins the cover. Christopher Larkin, Steve Borock- any advice from the pros you could offer for this unusual circumstance? See the pictures. Thanks, all!
