Hi all, Im setting up an actors studio in Bangor, Co. Down, in the New Year. The home of Gentle Method, the Hummingbird Actors Studio (Twitter: @GentleMethod) will be dedicated to the continuing personal and professional development of aspiring and professional actors. The studio has a Facebook page at: facebook/HummingbirdActorsStudio There will be a website shortly. At the Hummingbird Actors Studio I will be emphasising the importance of balance across your personal life, character life, performance life, and working life as an actor. Some people think acting is just getting up there and pretending to be other people, and thats fine, it can be. For others, acting can involve a sustained commitment to emotional courage, thoughtful practice, and a profound curiosity about humanity. For me, these are two very distinct genres of practice, and well be focusing on the second. I believe that acting can be one of the most immediate and consistently rewarding ways to explore the richness and depth of what it can mean to be human. And it can also be one of the most fun things youll ever do. Gentle Method invites a combination of technique, presencing, self-care, emotional awareness, and creative entrepreneurship. The Studio will draw on the insights, practices, and writings of Uta Hagen, Clive Barker, Michael Chekhov, Constantin Stanislavski, Ruth Zaporah, Augusto Boal, Miriam Laurence, Phillip Zarrilli and others. The first year of the Hummingbird Actors Studio will be largely experimental, an opportunity to develop and test the methods of the Studio. Because of this, I will be running the regular sessions at a considerable discount throughout 2015. Get in touch with me at actors@hummingbirdworkshop for more details. I also aim to host occasional workshops with visiting teachers, the cost of which will be set by the person running the workshop. The Hummingbird Actors Studio is a project of the Hummingbird Workshop CIC, a non-profit social enterprise based in Northern Ireland. A bit of background about myself ...
