Hi all! Those who know me know how much I love the coffee! So I am giving it up for October and donating what I would normally spend on coffee to help lower the stigma of mental illness, support those who need a friend and help raise money for Group61 who make this happen. Please help me to achieve my goal of $1000 to help fund 4 volunteer-friend relationships for a year... even just the amount for 1 coffee makes a huge difference! Group 61 is a voluntary, charity organisation devoted to breaking the isolation and enhancing the lives of the mentally ill. The charity partners dedicated volunteers with individuals who need support, who they refer to as ‘friends’.Volunteer-friend relationships are established over a weekly outing, often a coffee and a chat, where friends are empowered with confidence, trust and fulfilment of life. There are currently 135 volunteers and 116 friends being supported by Group 61, with a waiting list of friends that continues to grow. It costs an average of $250 per year for the charity to support one volunteer-friend relationship and they receive no government funding.
