Hi all, it was suggested that I post our Community Groups story to encourage and support all of you who are appalled at todays announcement by INEOS. Here goes. Our group, CCoF (Concerned Communities of Falkirk) have been fighting against Dart Energys plans to drill 22 wells for Coal Bed Methane for the past 2 years. We have pushed the whole plan back and took it to a Public Inquiry. The decision on it has been called in by Scottish Ministers and we are expecting a decision in the New Year. We formed a Community Mandate and a Community Charter and managed to get 2,500 local signatures. That encouraged our Councils to refuse the planning permission but Dart appealed and that is why it went to a Public Inquiry. Falkirk Council, Stirling Council, Dart Energy and Friends of the Earth were all represented by lawyers at the PI. Our group felt it was important that the local people were also represented and raised £80k to pay for a legal team to put forward our case. If we hadnt done all of this, Dart would have been drilling long ago! I guess what I am trying to say is....get together in each of your communities, form a group, do theninvestigative work and learn about the industry, print leaflets distribute them and hold a local meeting (we had 250 people turn up at our first meeting). Once you have done that join the newly forming Broad Alliance, a group of Community Groups who have sent a letter to the Scottish Ministers tasked with making the decision on the Dart Energy issue. The Broad Alliance is being supported by many other organisations including Unison. People can make the difference here, people coming together and saying no is what will stop it.
