Hi all, sorry for writing in English, but I find it easier to - TopicsExpress

Hi all, sorry for writing in English, but I find it easier to express myself in it (and also hope to reuse this material elsewhere and most of the relevant material is in it). In any case, Im wondering if anyone here would be interested in attending sessions of the so-called Stand-up philosophy/Stand-up comedy , with a lot of focus on my sci-fi/fantasy fanfic and other sci-fi/fantasy insights. For more information about them see: * shlomifish.org/Files/files/text/fax-to-moqqed-Chinuch-of-IDF.odt (PDF: shlomifish.org/Files/files/text/fax-to-moqqed-Chinuch-of-IDF.pdf ) * https://plus.google/+ShlomiFish/posts/GUpTuA6641x Reading from it: «« Heres an old idea of mine that Im seriously considering to materialise now: Stand up philosophy. Its actually an old idea. Back in hellenistic times and before, philosophers (and similar phenomena such as the Jewish and Israelite prophets) used to recite their philosophy (or stuff) in public as a form of entertainment and people who enjoyed it donated money to them in the end, so philosophers had a motivation to be popular. A lot of the philosophy from then seems tedious in todays eyes, and its in part because our times are better and due to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sturgeon%27s_law . And heres the thing: good entertainment (including fiction and even humour) is philosophical, and a really good philosophy is entertaining. In todays society, we tend to believe that collecting donations in a hat for good entertainment should be frowned upon (because its like begging for donations) but theres nothing wrong with it. So heres what it looks like: 1. Ill have a hat at the entrance where people can put donations at the end or whenever they want. They can also take money if they want. 2. Ill have and use an interconnected computer. 3. Ill have a microphone and also ask people from the audience to share their insights and Ill build upon them. 4. Ill try to be insightful and funny and popular. 5. I dont mind the talk recorded on video and later transcribed and subtitled. ========= Id like to do all this in nineworlds.co.uk/ or maybe even well before. The reason why snopes/music/artists/bell.asp - this happened is because like Eric Raymond notes in esr.ibiblio.org/?p=4229 - classical music is mostly a bunch of museum pieces. On the other hand, I saw a trumpeteer play outside the Synamteque in Tel Aviv and he played relatively amateuristically but very pleasantly and I ended up giving him a 10 Sheqel coin, my card and a d10 role-playing game die (which is my personal meaningful token of appreciation and strength) and he appreciated all that so much that we spent something like 30 minutes talking about his and my interests, about blogging, video blogging, having a net presence, etc. and both learning and teaching each other. So I hope this idea will be retro , but in a new clothing, and so more awesome. And it may not be 100% originally mine, but its more important for me to be good and great - not original. »» Please Like it and comment if you think youll find it enjoyable - Im trying to get a quorom. I now also think it should be more interactive with other people taking over as the speakers or taking turns in reading screenplays or stories. ====== For the flip side see Mel Brooks skit about a stand-up philosopher in ancient Rome: https://youtube/watch?v=tl4VD8uvgec The grain of truth to it is that back in those days philosophers were held with the same amount of contempt that the various entertainers are held today: actors, models, talk show hosts, online writers (= bloggers) , and most recently - reality T.V. show contestants and YouTube/etc. independent music artists (doing covers/etc.).
