When Stante told me Id be writing about what unnerves me, my first thought was: How many hours do you have to listen? I tend to be rather anxious or fearful about a lot of things, from snakes to spiders to flying to anything bad I see on the news. Anything that could possibly happen unnerves me. Sometimes I think that being a natural storyteller and writer isnt such a good thing. Even an innocent comment or sight can cause my mind to spin out of control. I imagine a million things happening every day, Im sure. And most arent good. And dont even get me started on the made-for-the-big-screen nightmares I have. Last night I was in an episode of NCIS, and I was supposed to hold the elevator door open for actor Mark Harmon, but all the lights were out. Next thing I knew, the door closed and I was plummeting 20 stories at full speed inside that elevator. When it crashed, I found myself with my hand jammed between stow pieces of metal. Then I woke up. If I had stayed asleep maybe the cast from Chicago Fire would have rescued me. (Aw damn…) Writing suspense is definitely my forte. I love venturing into the unknown, the mysterious, the suspenseful, the odd, the horrific, the paranormal or supernatural and even the sad. Maybe Im trying to desensitize myself. Sometimes I explore really cool things like the Bermuda Triangle of Canada (THE RIVER), or fate (CHILDREN OF THE FOG) or psychics (DIVINE INTERVENTION, DIVINE JUSTICE and soon to be released, DIVINE SANCTUARY). What I really like to tackle in my novels is FEAR. We all fear something. I explore the fear of death, loss, drowning, tight spaces, ones past catching up to them, and more in my novels.
