At that time, as well as in previous interviews that Ive done in the past, I cautioned against over-reliance on the mirror neurons model. To be clear. My concern is that we get caught up in the narrative at that level of abstraction and miss the big picture that the entire human system is constantly modeling, simulating, and predicting its environment to find the most adaptive positions and actions. We mirror, are attracted to, and physiologically mimic the environment based on perceived similarity. I like to think of the chameleon effect. Theres a bunch of complex neuroendocrinology and a stack of books a mile high exploring this in the form of economic theories, psychological theories, fairy tales, and countless other artifacts we use to create collective meaning. Im glad to see an organized exploration that acknowledges yet puts in context the role of mirror neurons in communication and cognition. Since Im neck-deep in hammering out #CoVA related stuff right now itll likely be early 2015 before I get a chance the dive into Gregory Hickoks book ( goo.gl/ndb3EZ ) . Knowing that other neuroscientists are already thinking and writing in that space gives me a strange sense of peace. Im optimistic about the direction of exploration we, as a species, are taking in neuroscience. From the scientific exploration of hypnosis, to the acknowledgement of the subjective... https://plus.google/105311142384601357051/posts/2K8XbXfuHm3
