Hi everybody, we still have space for a couple more students for the next two focus groups. Please come and help out! Please email Youki at youkitan@gmail and he will confirm with you and let you know the room #. Thanks! Dear Neuroscience students, Help us improve neuroscience education! We would greatly appreciate your participation (and you get a free gift card!). Under the supervision of Dr. Franco Taverna, we are developing a neuroscience concept inventory that will enable instructors to have a better assessment tool for introductory neuroscience education. Recognizing the need for a deeper understanding of student conceptions of introductory neuroscience material, we have decided to host a series of focus groups with undergraduate neuroscience students. I would like to invite you to participate in one of these focus groups. Focus groups are facilitated discussions among typically 5-10 participants. The discussion is audio taped but participants are not identified on the tape or in any accompanying notes to preserve anonymity. Each session will be 90 minutes in length. Students who participate are provided with refreshments during and will be given a gift card to the UofT Bookstore. You do not need any special qualifications but we are looking for students in upper years (3rd+) and enrolled in a major/specialist in neuroscience. Your participation is completely voluntary, though I hope you will be interested to come and give your ideas and opinions to better neuroscience education! The focus groups will be held on the following dates: Wednesday, February 5, 1:00PM - 2:30PM Thursday, February 13, 3:00PM - 4:30PM If you are interested in participating please email me at [email protected] with the following information: 1. Name 2. Email 3. Year of Study 4. Date(s) of availability Should you have any questions about these focus groups or our interest in using the results, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your participation! Sincerely, Youki Tanaka
