Hi everyone! Busy week so its taken awhile to get it together, but here are the minutes from last weeks meeting. 9 people attended the meeting. Agenda: 1. Introductions. 2. Ideas and concerns. 3. Membership. 4. Management and organising Committee members 5. Litter pick 1. INTRODUCTION. Everyone introduced themselves and talked about what brought them to the meeting. Anna Sherrat and I (Jose Barco) discussed our proposed plans which have been informed by the consultation weve done, this include litter picking, an edible community garden with a focus on wild life preservation( this would include a couple of fruit trees, fruit bushes, and herbs all perennial plants easy to maintain), a notice board to promote activities on site and post messages to encourage dog owners to take poo litter with them, also a bin ( which is not possible as BCC is not able to get collection of extra bins on existing contract), natural play equipment basically meaning stepping stones and tree stomps, keeping it simple, cheap and low maintenance and possibly a couple of benches. We also talked about the funding bid for Community first panel and the Active Transport Grant which we applied for prior to the meeting. We also had a couple of Shift Bristol permaculture students who will be making a design for the project based on the consultation and matters raised at the meeting. 2. IDEAS brought to the table were: Keeping it natural Keeping it open Respecting the badgers space Be open minded, try things out and see what works Would like to see the space used Engage people using the space to find out what community wants Would be good space for parents and kids to use after school Keep it dog poo free CONCERNS RAISED Dont create a hiding space Think of what any benches etc will be used for at night. Litter on site is a big issue The walking path leading from Johnsons Rd to the cycle path can be scary at night. Workers from school use site for smoke breaks and leave butts all over. 3. MEMBERSHIP We are asking people to pay £1 to become group members in order to support the purchase of a liability insurance which is needed to secure funding, though we will also be applying for a fund to get the insurance cover, and if we are successful we will brushing membership money to pay for meeting space, flyers etc. All people present signed up and payed the due. So at the moment we have £8 !!! 4.GETTING INVOLVED WITH MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE most people in the room said they are up for helping with practical activities rather than helping to organise. At the moment the Committee is made of Anna Sherrat and I Jose Barco as chair and secretary and for this to happen we need more people involved. We have now recruited Sonia to be either Treasurer or secretary! we will be meeting in the next few weeks to to see which suits her best. Also Sara Venn who couldnt be present steeped up to be out horticulturist adviser. We are still looking for: A vice chair One more horticulturist Two fundraisers A communications officer ( someone to manage Facebook group, social media and other communication) If there is some of this you would be up for doing or at. Least part of a role please contact me on 07739195011 to discuss this further. 5. LITTER PICK We decided to do a litter pick in the next few weeks, the date is still to be decided. We will be working with the Good Gym, they do a good deed, come and help do the task, then run back to where they came from. We are also talking to people from Sustrans who have a litter picking group for the Cycle path and we can run the event under their liability insurance as we cant afford one at the moment. We will litter pick, Fin said he may be able to provide some bunting to put up on the same day we litter pick and we will also have a pick nick after. The event will be called Litter PickNick and we would like to know when people can make it if they are up for participating. There are possibilities of encountering drug litter, so ideally the litter pick would have to be done without children or with heavy parental supervision just in case! Please comment back or add anything you think is missing if you attended the meeting. If you couldnt make it to the meeting but would like to be involved please do get in touch. Many thanks, Jose Barco Community Organiser for Edible Futures 07739195011 [email protected]
