Hi everyone! Easy Street Horse Rescue, located in Amsterdam NY, was started in 2006 and is an active 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We have helped over 100 horses since then. Several factors have come together to create a very tough atmosphere for us at this time. First, we undertook a 15 horse seize at the request of the NYS Police and the Town of Root in 2012. These horses were all wild with barely any handling, let alone any training. It has been a very slow process gelding the stallions (7) and finding homes. At present we still have 7 of these horses up for adoption. They are all very sweet, kind, loving and smart horses. BUT they are not trained. They are beautiful Anglo Arabians. BUT they are not trained. They are some of the smartest Horses I have come across, but we do not anyone to train them nor the facilities. They Are halter broke only. The REALITY is that even though each horse is wonderful, has all vaccinations, current coggins and rabies, and adoptipn fee is only$300 (costs have exceeded on avg $4000 per horse), folls want to adopt a broke, ridable horse. Secondly, although we stepped in on behalf of the horses and per Court Ordered Seizure by the Town of Root, we have received NO reimbursement. Although we asked for the Town to help with expenses which we continue to incur. And the economy does not help with donations lower. Horse rescue takes months and sometimes years to the happy ending. Having a horse is a huge financial and time committment. Not sometimg everyone do. We ask for all animal lovers to please spread the word that we 1) need to find good adoptable homes and 2) financial support and 3) volunteers to care for the horses and 4) volunteers that can do fundraisers.
