Hi everyone. I had a rough day yesterday. The fine balance between - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone. I had a rough day yesterday. The fine balance between not antagonizing my atrial fibrillation by overexertion, coupled with the need to exercise to prevent edema provided a hard balance to achieve. The end result was restless leg syndrome, and thighs so swollen they felt ready to burst. On top of that, the food I ate didnt sit well and I now understand what it means to have heartburn and acid reflux. Nighttime was by far the worst. On top of all my other miseries, the drain and the incision were both weeping copious amounts of clear fluid and the bandages were getting saturated faster than they could be replaced. However, mixed in with all the trials were several successes: the cessation of all IV fluids, the implementation of oral medications, and the removal of that dreaded IV needle from my left elbow (what was she thinking?!). Sometime during the night I woke up feeling a lot of pain in my abdominal area and stomach and thats when I experienced the acid reflux. Towards morning I vomited. I felt a lot better after that, but still pretty wiped out. After discussion with Dr. Goff, were going to surmise that the switch to oral medications is what triggered the digestive response and she promises that we will get over this hump. She also pointed out that the atrial fibrillation is a common side effect of being pumped full of more IV fluids than my poor body can handle. I am back to sipping water, doing laps around the ward, and able to spend some quality time with T who is taking this dictation right now. Note to anyone finding themselves booked for an extended stay in a hospital ward, have some sort of shoes available for walking the ward, as well as a nice designer housecoat so that youre not issued one of these appalling striped numbers. Also, wet wipes get used up very quickly, so maybe have somebody bring a large container of wet wipes to be stocked in the bathroom for your use. Since I have not yet reached the goal of being able to eat without nausea or have the pain 100% under control, I do not believe I will be getting discharged today. Dr Goff will be coming back later to talk with me some more, and that when I may find out her plan for the rest of the week. [tal]
