Hi everyone. I have a new idea for a fun collaborative project. - TopicsExpress

Hi everyone. I have a new idea for a fun collaborative project. It would require the use of a digital camera and some sort of photo editing software like Photoshop or Gimp (which is free.) But I think it would be a lot of fun, and pretty easy. If our students cant physically walk in one anothers shoes, what if we Photoshopped them in? Project Name: Alternate Reality Students create false memories by Photoshopping student images into each others schools. 1) Students send (and receive) photographs of their peers photographed in a variety of poses against a blank background. They may accompany the photos with a short list of activities and interests they typically enjoy doing at school. 2) Using Photoshop, Gimp (free software), or other image-editing software, students create photocomposites by cutting and pasting their guests into scenes around their school. 3) Students write documentary-style captions for their photographs, explaining aspects of what life might be like for them. How would their guest fit into their school routines and activities? What would they enjoy? What challenges might they face? 4) Email the photocomposites back to the partner classes. 5) Discuss and ask questions. What problems might they face at their new school (not as a foreigner, but just as a student)? Collaboratively brainstorm solutions. 6) Action phase: Once students collaboratively identify some of the difficulties students face in their partners school, prepare an email (or a short talking head video?) making observations and suggestions to pass along to their partner teacher and administration. (Perhaps there could be some sort of outreach, as well, inviting students from a less advantaged neighboring school to participate in the next round?) Another variation could be to use green screen video and create video composites with voiceovers instead of captioned photographs. Let me know if you would like to give this a try, or if you have an idea to improve it! Chris Baer [email protected] Oak Bluffs, MA USA
