Hi everyone. Id like to organize a meetup (Probably in Edmonton) sometime in the next month or two and strategize for what wed like to accomplish in 2015. Politics is a game of pressure and we want to tip the pressure on Alberta politicians towards liberty and we can only do that by persuading Albertans of the merits of our positions. 1. Wide scope: Spreading general awareness about liberty via a website/social media, networking with likeminded individuals in Alberta, getting some online petitions going (which are worthless except to raise awareness as the govt does not currently recognize online petitions, but its a good way to introduce ourselves to people and help them identify with us, as they will sign petitions about issues they also care about). 2. Small scope: Identifying timely and hot button issues that we can gain ground on and taking action. This requires a vast amount of time, effort, and possibly money (although can be done on a shoestring, but even printing out flyers costs money in paper+ink.), and petitioning the legislature (which has to be done via collecting signatures the old fashioned way), organized letter campaigns, advertisements in local newspapers, etc. For specific issues we need to find issues that Albertans are already concerned about, and we need to show them how more liberty is the best solution for these issues. Anyway, these take the most time as it requires people willing to go out and hand out fliers or collect signatures and getting people involved. 3. Nitty gritty - This is the boring part that requires research+time , when legislation is introduced, we need people to identify how it is 1) less liberty focused than previous legislation or, 2) more liberty focused than previous legislation and then write/raise awareness accordingly on whether said legislation is worth supporting and writing our MLAs and minister to let them know we support more liberty, not less. But we need to be able to identify the specific parts of the legislation we support or do not support and present them in a professional manner so we can be taken seriously and also so we can persuade others to support us in these endeavors. Small steps, just some things to think about so at our next meetup we can identify some issues and organize to tackle them. Heres a guide on petitioning legislature so you can kinda see what would be involved. https://assembly.ab.ca/pro/petition_guide.pdf -Nichole
