Hi everyone ... Sorry I did not update on Colin yesterday, but I have to let my old lady dog DougieDoo go over the bridge and was really too upset to do much else 😢😢😢 I spoke to the vet at length on Friday and we have decided that he will carry out surgery on Colin next week to shorten both his legs. The two previous operations to try to create additional skin to cover his stumps have only been partially successful and we are agreed that rather than carrying out additional surgery to try to rectify this it will be better to bite the bullet and take about 1cm of each bone. This will ensure that there is enough skin and will shorten his rehabilitation process and mean that he should be ready to start preparations for his prosthetics in about 3 - 4 weeks. We also had a conversation about costs as when this project first started I had no idea that Colin would need this amount of surgery and veterinary care once he was in the UK. I have already paid the vet £1,000 and he has estimated that this will rise by about another £2,000 as there are all the costs of taking the moulds and making the casts for his prosthetics and all the additional x-rays that are needed for the legs but not factored into the cost of the legs by the manufacturer ... This already includes a massive discount my lovely vet has given me due to Colin being a special case ... I have £2,196 left in the pot but this does not leave us anything for any contingency plans ... Not does it leave anything to cover his rehabilitation and any physio, hydro or aftercare ... I know everyone has really pushed the boat out for Colin but can we just try to dig a little deeper and get him a little extra in the pot ??? I hate having to ask I received a very nasty email from a lady yesterday saying that I was a beggar and a scrounger 😢 I can assure you that the only time I ever do this is for the dogs ... I dont even ask for discount when Im buying anything for myself ... Dogs such as Colin are now my life and are worth every beg and grovel I have ever had to make and I am not ashamed of what I do ❤️❤️❤️
