Hi fellow Explorers...... We own and love our Explorers even with their faults.... but our 2003 V8 limited is becoming a love hate relationship...... We have just hit 170,000 kilometres have replaced cv joints front ball joints front, upper and lower control arms, oil sensor, wheel bearings (all 4 I think...) pinion seal has been replaced and topped up fluid.... main rear seal on engine. Still after all this car has got a death shake..... no vibration while running still but starts once you are driving. Im hoping its just Uni joints but not so sure... Its worst at about 110-130 kms hour the hum/nooise it makes is deafining like a aeroplane taking off. left front side seems to be rattling more. noise seems to be coming from transfer case but not definite.. there is excessive backlash in diff and not sure if we should re build diff or put in a new improved one ( any suggestions upgrades we could make??) and would this make the vibration? I thought it would make metal on metal noise teeth grinding etc????? should we replace whole driveline and put in a carbon driveshaft??? again any suggestions (we are novices...) also when I looked at play on uni joints /shafts there seemed to be a lot of play where it connects to transfer case.. could there be a issue with the trans???? what damage can the constant rattle do to the engine??? just sunk a lot of money trying to fix car and it seems to be happy to give us more issues than what we started with. Would/should a trained mechanic pick up on driveshaft issues (if thats what it is) when requested to look over the car and they have just replaced pinion seal!!! dont know if its related but when driving slow there is a noticeable loose rattle noise but disappears after 60ks... also get a clunk when going up slight incline could that be the 4x4??? hum/vibration doesnt change when we put it in 4wd etc. any ideas, tips, help would be appreciated.....
