Hi folks. You may have noticed (or not) that I havent had much to - TopicsExpress

Hi folks. You may have noticed (or not) that I havent had much to say/post over the last few days. I havent given birthday greetings in weeks and just had to drop out of a big show. My apologies to anyone who feels slighted or ignored or forgotten. Right now, were in the midst of a lot of good, hard transitions: Tobias just learned to crawl, Im deeply immersed in grad school, BlackWomens Blueprint work and Surviving the Mic, Jeffs checking out schools and were in the midst of searching for a place we can call home in or near the city. Im also trying to figure out whats going on with my health and planning to do a 3-day juice fast in a week or so. Whew. In the non-profit industrial complex that many of us live in, we talk a lot about self-care, boundaries and articulating what we need. Ive never personally practiced self-care: I work from the second I wake up until I hit the pillow at night and Ive never been able to afford things like massages, naturopaths, etc. When I say afford, I dont just mean financially. Ive had such awful experiences with anything to do with the body in a healing capacity (even folks who do bodywork seem to have issues with big bodies, especially those of a darker hue) that I feel like I cant afford it spiritually or emotionally. Im at a point where that needs to be confronted and Ive realized that I cant powerfully move forward without prioritizing my health. A lot of you, my dear friends, have been through the process of reclaiming your health and are now on the other side of that process of reclamation. Can I ask you what your first step was? What got you through the first days, weeks, month? For everyone else, please know that I see you and celebrate you, even if I dont have time to say so. In context of the larger world, my problems are good problems to have: how to heal a body that has the ability to be healed, how to safeguard a strong and energetic son, how to write good stories, how to support a loving partner, how to find and nurture a loving home, how to start an organization that has already changed my life for the better, how to work hard for an organization that is changing the world daily. How to be better, do better, feel better. No hashtag required. Just all my love.
