Hi friends! I have a pretty huge announcement to make. Seeing as today is Transgender Day of Remembrance and Transgender Awareness Week I wanted to take this moment to finally come out publically as a genderqueer transwoman. It has taken me two decades to finally have the resources and confidence to finally live openly as my authentic self and Im so grateful to have the support of my parents, partner, and coworkers by my side. Which doesnt mean that this isnt an incredibly scary step - this is the most socially and physically vulnerable Ive ever been in my life - but I know that I have a wonderful community around me and I love you all who choose to remain by my side. As I continue this new journey I ask that the people around me begin addressing me as Avery Ruel and with the pronouns she/her or they/them. Please try to do this both in and out of my presence and try to politely correct yourself and others when you slip up. I dont expect anyone to be perfect but your effort is noticed and deeply appreciated. Finally, if you have questions for me Im open to answering them but please make sure that your questions are interested not interesting. Basically if youre curious about my experiences or want to interact with me more respectfully I will enthusiastically answer, but make sure when youre asking me something that youre fully prepared to respect my lived experience over your preconceptions or opinions. Im happy to share but please respect my vulnerability. I love you all and thanks for listening!
