Hi guys! I had an idea, and I really would love to bring it to life. I did a Parallax animation a while ago (link below) with a bunch of photos taken or created by me (with one exception; thank you to 13-year-old Darby Smith for the use of his incredible black and white horse photograph). I want to do a longer one with all photos taken by Perth photographers to capture all aspects of Perth. Itll be a Perth Parallax. So what I ask is that every Perth photographer that wants to be involved sends me as many photos as he or she have of Perth. A few photos of our states landmarks would be awesome but they dont all have to be iconically Perth. They dont have to be iconic, but they have to be indicative. Of course, all photographers will be appropriately recognised for their contribution. Not a thank you to these guys at the end, but on every photo taken by you. That way youre getting actively promoted in the process. The process of creating Parallax animation is straightforward, but can be anywhere from a 5 minute task to a 3 hour one. So if any Photoshoppers or After Effects gurus want to assist in the task, that would greatly reduce my workload and create a bigger community project! Even if you dont know how to do the effect, Id be happy to go through it with you or there are plenty of tutorials around if you prefer that method. Its a good side project and great for the resume (I know every filmmaker says this when its an unpaid gig, but this actually is; the end product creates a slick, seamless, super-slowmotion eye-catcher, and you’ll have complete rights to any animation segment you assisted in to use on showreels provided the photographers name is on it). You can do anywhere from 1 to 100, theres no limit. But please, even if you have your own photos and know how to do the effect, I ask that you speak to me first before getting started so you know the tone, length, animation speed, resolution etc. It needs to be consistent. Lastly, a desperate call for any and all Perth musicians. I don’t know exactly what tone will suit yet; as the photos start coming in I’ll know if it’ll be alternative and surreal or pop and catchy. I’d love to hear what Perth artists are coming up with and any that would like to contribute to the project. The video may be the length of one song, it might be the length of ten, or it might end up as a series of videos focussing on different aspects. So depending on the amount of interest, there is the possibility of using many songs with many different tones, and that means many different artists. So any and all, get involved. As well as being a community piece showcasing Perth’s artistic identity, it’s one, giant, free advertisement for everyone involved. Private message or email me at mitch.charman@gmail, and join me in seeing how big this thing can go. As soon as people start to get involved I’ll set up a Facebook Group, create deadlines, and ask questions to generate all your thoughts on key aspects of production.
