Hi guys! With the new band Im playing now Im using an mixed kit with congas as toms, and an 8 snare drum made by myself. They asked for those sounds. The problem is that the congas are way too heavy to carry around for the gigs and rehearsals and hard to fit in that setup...I saw the Pearl travel congas and the LP compact congas, but they are a bit expensive and they certainly lack the bass frequencies of a full sized conga... So I was thinking about getting thick staved shells with the diameter that would make possible fitting the congas sized heads. They would be around 8 to 10 deep. Then I would invent the hrdware for the tuning myself... They would have more bass frequencies than the compact congas, and would be easier to fit. What do you think about that... did you ever seen a tom with a conga head, or similar thing? Cheers
