Hi guys, this is topic for next week, hope to see our new mems ^^ Understanding Vietnamese minorities culture Vietnam is home to 54 ethnics but Kinh’s dominant, they take about 86% of the population. Almost minorities such as: Tay, Nung, Muong,…live in mountainous regions and plateaus. Each ethic has different characteristic culture and language that makes Vietnamese culture become plentiful and diverse. Minorities’ cultures are interesting and mysterious. For example to win girl’s heart, you have to be talented and skillful. You must know how to whistle by leaf, tootle, the more talent you are, the more she loves you. However, the most important thing is that you must make her build belief on you. Another interesting custom of Dao is “Ngu tham”. At night, girls who are mature will lighting and then go to sleep. The man who likes a girl will find a chance to break to her house to sleep with her. After he enters the girl’s house, she will turn off the light and they will enjoy the night together. If the girl likes the man too, she will talk to her parents or she will wrap clothes and rice to chase him away slightly if doesn’t. Helping minorities deal with modern life is our government’s effort in many years and we’ve got some good results such as teaching Vietnamese language and scratch out some bad customs like underage marriage. But we’re scare that somehow these cultures is fading and maybe in one day it will be deleted totally. To avoid that, understanding and remaining culture beauty is very important for all Vietnamese. Diucussion : 1. Do you know any interesting custom of minorities? Have you ever visit them or join in their festival? 2. Most people are afraid of being harmed by incantation. Do you believe in it? 3. Imagining that you are a teacher who lives a modern life in Hanoi but one day you’re required to move to mountainous area for 2 years. What would you do? 4. What do you think about the custom “Ngu tham”? Is it a bad or good custom? Should we keep it or not? 5. One day your plane meets accident and fall in the middle of the jungle. Some people in strangle clothes find you, they looks very serious and dangerous, what will happen in your opinions? Make a story.
