Hi teams Match Reports for games 12/08/2013 The first game of the night was a changed fixture. Cross data unable to play and Cambridge with the night off decided they would play there fixture against haven fc. Cambridge lying second from bottom with only three points to date was looking to add to their tally. They started the game with the bit between their teeth and with only seconds on the clock Steve Finn hit a ferocious shot that just went wide. Captain Adam Cambridge struck next and forced Haven’s keeper into a save. Ian o Connor playing upfront for haven forced a save from Cambridge’s keeper with their first attack on the 10 minute mark. Haven who have had some fine results of late seemed to be struggling without some players especially there influential Darrel Foley. Adam missed a great opportunity when Shane Finn broke down the wing a sent in a pin point cross only for Adam to miss from 5 feet out when he headed just over the cross bar. Cambridge seemed to have Haven rocked at this stage. Haven seemed to be playing with a uncharacteristic 3 man defence consisting of Daniel ahern, Steve and Michael Keily.it was obvious to see their game plan was going to be try restrict Cambridge’s attacking opportunity’s and get them on the counter but all it seemed to do was confine them to their own half. Cambridge were looking like very strong especially in midfield thanks mainly to the two Finn brothers and both were involved in the lead up to the first goal with Shane spreading the ball wide to Steve and provided a defence splitting pass to Adam and him finishing with side foot into the bottom corner. One nil Cambridge. The second half started in the same fashion as the first with Adam getting a shot off from the restart. Adam who was having a wonderful game was again unlucky only moments later when he was thru on Havens keeper Robinson only to pull off a great save but the rebound fell to Steve Finn who calmly slotted the ball home. This spurned haven into changing formation to their usual 2 2 2 with Steve Keily and Redz in defence, Dan Ahern and Michael Keily moving into mid and Ian O’Conner and Paul Kelly up front. Darren was been used as sub and came in floating around mid when he came on. While haven were trying to get use to this formation change Shane Finn made the most of it breaking from his own half making his way all the way to the six yard box with a storming run and put the ball past a helpless Robinson. The game looked over at this stage but Kelly made Cambridge start to worry a bit when he pulled back one for Haven on 44mins with a powerful shot hitting the top right of the net. Man of the match Shane Finn had two opportunities in quick succession with one shot coming of the upright and another forcing the other contender for man of the match Robinson into another great save but the other brother Steve wanted to have the final say and with 3 mins left and with a one on one with Robinson he made the most of it and got his second of the night to round of a great night for Cambridge. Cambridge 4 v Haven Fc 1 The other game of the night was Some team v The blues. The blues were on the receiving end of a heavy defeat when these two teams first met and The blues were out to make amends. Some team started the brightest with the league’s top scorer Sweetnam getting the first opportunity only for Spillane to get in a leg to block his shot. Some teams Andrew Daunt was next to fire a shot just over the crossbar moments later. It was The blues who were going to get on the score sheet first with The blues first attack. It was a well worked goal with Dave Kinsella breaking from midfield and combining with Doran who supplied a return ball and Kinsella finishing well on 14 mins .Spillane then hit the crossbar three mins later. Some team replied soon afterwards when Brian Lyons took a throw in and landed the ball on the end of Andrew Daunts foot and on the volley he blasted the ball home from 20 feet out. The game was starting to look very cagey with Cian Kingston getting a few half chances and with Doran playing up front on his own he wasn’t having much luck been very well marshalled by Some teams Liam Murray. Half time it finished one apiece. All the action was to happen in the second half. Liam Murray Started the second half nursing a knock he received in the first have and it was plain to see he was only at 50 percent. The Blues smelted blood and Put Dave Kinsella upfront with Doran. With the pressure Kinsella was fouled 20 feet out ,Spillane took the free and laid it to Doran and with his shot looking as if it was going top corner it curled just wide of the post. The resulting kick out was miss kicked by Some teams keeper walshy who passed it straight to Doran. One on one Doran does not miss them opportunities and slotted home for his first of the night. The next goal could be a contender for goal of the season when Kingston hit a 30 feet ball only for Doran to take it on the chest and lay it off to Kinsella with an overhead flick who hit it on the volley to make it 3 nil on 40mins.After that goal Liam had to make way and with no subs Soccer 7’s own Justin banks went into goals for some team with walshy moving into Liam’s position .Phil Sweetnam tried to work his magic but was reduced to speculative shots. Doran and Kinsella really seemed to be linking up well and again Doran with a strong run down the wing sent a ball across the face of goal only for Kinsella to have the simplest of tap ins on 42min.The blues looked to be in total control but one of the potential MVPs Andrew daunt still pulled the strings for Some Team and he replied by hitting a 35 foot screamer from a free kick on 44. With some team trying to fight their way back into the game it was just looking as if it wasn’t going to be there night when for the second time a kick out from some teams replacement keeper was miss kicked and this time Kinsella was waiting to pounce to get his fourth of the night.5 – 2 to The blues with 15 mins to go. The blues seemed to go asleep thinking that it was in the bag and were soon forced to work hard for their win when Some teams Ronan Barry pulled two back ,His first on 51 when Sweetnam back healed a ball supplied by daunt to Barry who taped in from 6 feet and his second on 54 when again with another assist from sweetnam. With 5 mins left some team were camped out in The Blues half. The blues Defensive pair Ryan and Dara keily could have been mistaken for presidential secret service agents as they threw themselves in front of every ball and shot to protect their goal. The blues saw the game out to end deserved winners of this 9 goal thriller. The Blues 5 v some team 4 Match reports for Mondays night games 19/08/2013 will be posted Friday eve.Cheers
