Hi to all my writer friends, I recently joined the American - TopicsExpress

Hi to all my writer friends, I recently joined the American Society of Journalists and Authors and I feel like it is well worth the money: * I just ordered discounted subs to half a dozen magazines that I write for or want to write for and paid an average of $5 per. * Ive spent several hours scrolling through their various forums and have learned a lot about editors, travel writing, payment issues, etc. * They have numerous reports on what magazines and newspapers and websites pay and how the editors are to deal with and how long you wait for payment. * Ive found email addresses for many editors that I want to write for. * I can get a laminated Press card for about $7. * They have group health insurance for members. * They have job listings for freelancers: ghost writing, oral histories, websites, etc. * Help with contracts and negotiations. * Annual conference in NY City in April (can you say business expense?) * A new annual conference in Chicago in Nov. aimed at hooking writers up with online operations. * Deeply discounted subscriptions to PW, Profnet, Flexjob and others. And probably a few things Im not aware of yet. Its more expensive then most writers orgs ($210/year) but im already finding it well worth it. And Im always willing to pay more for a great tool, which I think this org. is. Also you will need to have published a substantial bit of work to qualify (thats the hook that gets ASJA the best job postings) like at least one book or 6-8 magazine articles. If you do join and mention that I referred you, Ill buy you dessert when next we meet as Ill get a break on next years dues. So yeah, theres something in it for me, if one or more of yall join. But even if no one else joins, I still feel like Im already getting a really great deal. take care and keep writing, Frank Hyman asja.org/how-to-join/
