Hi we are making a film about the history of squatting in london (since the second world war) We aim to open a new narrative with this film and look at the demonisation of squatting within the context of the rise of neoliberal power.We hope to explore squatting in its complexity through a wide variety of voices. It will look at the relevance of squatting in the current housing crisis. It will touch on themes such as the neo-liberalisation of London, social and council housing, the welfare state and Britains changing attitude to the poor. Squatting has absolutely transformed our own lives. We think that London has a rich squatting history and want to collect some of these stories together. It is important for us to communicate our history and to present a different story than is portrayed by the mainstream media to a wide audience. Right now we are living in a time when the option to squat is more important in England than ever before. We are looking for any footage/ photographs of squats in London, footage/photographs of housing demos in London and tales of squatting in London !
