"Hide This Card" is a Facebook reimplementation of a conceptual art piece from the early 1970s. The original "Hide This Card" was done as the slogan rubber-stamped onto small cards. These cards were then to be hidden somewhere in the environment. At the time, most of activity centered around Evanston, IL, USA, and Northwestern University although at least a couple of cards ended up on airliners heading toward New York City and San Francisco. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago may also have been implicated. With the rise of ubiquitous visual technology and widespread social networking, I thought it appropriate to do a Facebook version. The ease of documenting something about the location of cards (like a picture of the bookstore or library shelf or cafe or auditorium or stadium row or wherever) without documenting the _exact_ location allows a communal performance of the piece that becomes self-documenting on the Facebook page. I hope to be able to post files (MS-Word or PDF) that can be used to print out cards for yourself. If you choose not to use them, make your own. A picture of the card and a picture of location would then be appreciated. If you end up making something on the web with simple tools or meme generators, I hope you will keep the spirit of "Hide This Card" paramount. In the spirit of community, I ask that anything posted on this page be assumed to be available for reuse by anybody who runs across it. Thanks and enjoy!!!! --- Glenn Sogge (FormerComposer)
