Higginsville Chamber of Commerce, MU Extension and UCM Small Business & Technology Development Center are Partnering to Hold Understanding Social Media and Business Training Class While Facebook continues to be the largest and most dominant social media channel, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter are growing channels with millions of users. Twitter alone has over 200 million users and is growing every day. Each channel has unique demographics, strategies, and ways to post. Do you use them to broaden your business’s reach? Do you want to develop a better understanding of these channels; evaluate which ones might best fit your needs and how to approach each as a business? Do you want to discuss software such as Hootsuite and Statigram that can be used with channels to manage your messaging? In order to teach people how they can use social media in their businesses more effectively, Courtney Niemuth, with the Small Business and Technology Development Center at the University of Central Missouri, will be offering a Understanding Social Media class on March 6, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Lafayette County MU Extension Center located at 14 East 19th St., Higginsville, MO 64037. Course objectives: Understand Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. Learn about the demographic breakdown of the channels. Discuss posting frequency and style for the channels, including hashtags. Examine some of the best practices for each of the channels. Learn about goals and metrics. Walk through setting up an account on each of the channels of interest. Discuss who to follow on the various channels. Walk through Hootsuite and Statigram, as well as a couple of the analytics tools available. Discuss how your reach and interactions on the channels relate to your goals. Learn about integration among channels and on Facebook. There is a modest fee for the training that will go toward covering the costs associated with conducting the class.
