High Resolution Audio In the Headline at SxSW! Sara Trujillo: It’s been a great week for high resolution audio. Neil Young and his PONO initiative has put the spotlight back on audio at SxSW. What many mainstream journalists have missed is that high resolution audio has been around since 2008, when David and Norman Chesky created the genre and launched HDTracks. Since then, the site has seen triple digit growth and has titles from every major music label and hundreds of independents. In fact, the music labels have become so supportive that they now offer HDTracks new releases in high resolution with the same street-date as their MP3 counterparts on Apple iTunes. At this years CES, many companies announced a variety of products that will support high resolution audio from portable players, to affordable DACs and even smartphone manufacturers made a point of highlighting the audio format. It’s a great time for consumers to experience high res audio and a great time for companies to put more focus on audio again. Here’s a brief snapshot comparing PONO with the current players in the industry: 1. HDtracks offers the same FLAC format NOW as PONO will. 2. HDtracks offers additional formats AIFF, WAV, and ALAC so the customer can use any platform the wish. 3. All HDtracks files will play on the PONO device. 4. HDtracks files will play on all the other excellent hi resolution audio portable players that already exist in the market from companies such as Astell & Kern, FiiO, HiFiMAN, and others. 5. HDTracks already has hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers and thousands and thousands of the biggest and best sounding artists in hi res audio files available NOW. Ranging from Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Bob Dylan, Mile Davis and thousands more…in every genre of music.
