High Wind Warning is in effect for parts of South-Central New - TopicsExpress

High Wind Warning is in effect for parts of South-Central New Mexico through Midnight tonight. Thunderstorms that developed over central New Mexico moved into a very dry airmass this afternoon and evening. All the evaporative cooling has helped form a strong outflow cold pool behind an outflow boundary (essentially a big blob of cold air). The initial push produced 30-35 mph winds across Sierra County. Now a second push is coming through with much stronger winds. These winds will surge southward across the Rio Grande Valley, Jornada del Muerto, and Tularosa Basins... producing winds over 58 mph across the warning area. Blowing Dust is likely to develop across northern Dona Ana and Otero Counties...especially along US-70 south of White Sands National Monument. The outflow winds will likely lose some strength as they push further south, but gusty winds are possible into Las Cruces and southern Otero Counties over the next few hours. Stay tuned for possible later statements or warnings.
