High court dismissed the petition of Partap Bajwa against Panchayat Wardbandi By Baljit Balli Chandigarh, June 13: Punjab and Haryana high court has dismissed the petition filed by PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa challenging the Wardbandi of Panchayats of Punjab, notified by the Rural Development and Panchayat Deptt, clearing the way for holding Panchayat polls in the state. In a judgement prononced today morning the court vacated the stay on poll notification. Now the Panchayat polls can be held on the present wardbandi but the court issues strict guidelines for Wardbandi of future elections and directed the state govt to abide by these guidelines for the next elections. The Court had reserved the judgement on the PIL filed by Punjab Pradesh Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa challenging the Wardbandi exercise for Panchayat polls by the State Govt. The Court had also restrained the Govt. of Punjab to issue the notification of Panchayat poll till the pronouncement of the judgement. It may be recalled that the PIL, filed through PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa, had sought directions to the state government to undertake the complete process of wardbandi afresh in all village panchayats strictly in accordance with the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994 (amended in 2012).
