High ideals are given to man. They lie slumbering in the depth of his soul. Let them awaken! Do not repress every stirring that would fill you with bliss. Do not complain when suffering overtakes you. Bear it, and be strong! No suffering can approach you that you have not allowed to do so. But learn from it, and change in your inmost being, then it will drop away from you and you will become free. Do not however deceive yourselves lest you exercise false compassion, but consider whether your good volition also truly benefits men! To suffer for justice means to suffer for Truth. To take everything upon oneself, to overcome all in order to remain true, is the hardest thing for man on his journey. It means everything: living righteously, living truthfully to the minutest detail, and it will cost many a struggle, many a sorrow; it will be experiencing, true experiencing, throughout the whole of man’s journey. Thus should his path be, so that the way to the Kingdom of Heaven may be open for him. If your neighbour’s actions seem wrong to you, you are not to set yourselves up as his judge; for each passes judgement upon himself! Pay attention to yourselves, lest in the end you lack what is best: personal recognition! Only attempt a prayer when your soul stirs, be it in joy or in suffering. But every prayer out of wantonness or habit is sacrilege towards God! Let His Name be too sacred for you to have it on your lips at every opportunity! Pray for the Living Power which must flow through you if you would live. Everything comes out of this Power, that which is and is to be. It stirs in everything your eye can see, and also in that which is hidden from your sight. And on the Power of the Light will your ascent depend, on it depends everything you need for living. But know that only if you are completely pure and open can you absorb it.
