Higher than average heat and humidity is anticipated over the next several days in our area. Residents who may be sensitive to the heat are urged to take advantage of air conditioning, avoid strenuous activity, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, avoid hot foods and cooking during a heat alert. Taking lukewarm showers or baths and wearing light-colored, loose clothing also help beat the heat. Residents are also asked to check on their elderly neighbors, who may be especially susceptible to the extreme heat. Warning signs of heat exhaustion include dizziness, weakness, fainting and vomiting. Individuals should seek medical attention immediately if these symptoms are prolonged. Many public facilities are often air conditioned, and for those at risk (very young and very old), they should take refuge in an air conditioned space for at least a few hours during the day when temps are this high (for example, the mall, theater, grocery store, department store, etc). The following Town facilities are air conditioned, and will be open to any residents who are seeking relief from the heat: • Mansfield Public Library: Mondays and Wednesdays 10 – 5; Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 – 8; Fridays and Saturdays 9 - 5. • Mansfield Community Center: 5:30-10:00 (Mon-Fri.); Saturday: 5:30-8:00; Sunday- 8-8 The Mansfield Senior Center is closed the week of July 15, 2013 for annual maintenance.
