Highlander (1986) Directed by Russell Mulcahy There can be only one. Appropriate catchphrase for this movie. See, cuz what occurs to me is that in 1986 this movie must have been kickass. Nothing else like it. This is a comic book movie without the comic book. An original screenplay which I find almost puzzling. Because its such a fantastic concept for a movie. Race of immortals that can only be killed by each other, last man standing..... wins, I guess you could call it. So we cut back and forth between time periods of Connor Mcleod, Scottish Highlander (see, cuz its the Highlands, so the title means...). He finds out one day from Sean Connery, a spaniard of course... actually ancient Egyptian, that hes part of a race of these immortals. So he trains him in the ways of combat to hone his newfound ability. We cut back and forth between then and the present Connor who is an antique dealer in NYC. Hes been found by The Kurgan (great villain played by Clancy Brown). The Kurgan and Connor battle in NYC. I think this movie was made a decade too early, perhaps. I applaud the film for its ambition. Theres loads happening here. And you can see the filmmakers are using every dime of what looks to be a small budget to make such an epic kind of fantasy movie work. But at the same time you can tell this is on the lower budget side of things and it dates the film quite a bit at times. The action is good, excellent story. They get into the tragedy of being immortal, seeing everyone die around you. Didnt think the movie would go there and Im glad it did. And all movies I think wish they had Queen doing the soundtrack. ♫ I AM IMMORTAL, I HAVE INSIDE ME BLOOD OF KINGS!!! ♫ B for the final product. But an A++ for effort.
