Highlight of my week at Watervale Inn: At dinner tonight, I was chatting with a couple of friends, when one mentions she cant believe that the daughters of the other one are headed to college this fall. Although Ive known the second friend for 30 years, Id say were more like acquaintances. I actually know his younger brother better. Anyway, the 2nd friend says, Yep. Im driving them to Chicago next Friday. I cant believe the twins are all grown up. My ears perk up and say, Chicago? University of Chicago? Oh, no. A small liberal arts school in the northern suburbs. You probably havent heard of it, he replies. Lake Forest College? Thats it! How did you know? Oh, Im an alumna and the 2nd VP of the Alumni Board. And Im speaking at the BBQ next Friday night. Youre kidding! Thats amazing! The girls will be so excited! So I give him my LFC Alumni Board business card that happens to be in my pocket along with my personal business card. They happen to be in my pocket for a whole other networking opportunity I was expecting at dinner, but thats another story. A few minutes later, he brings his entire family (about 10 people in 3 generations) out to talk to me and hear all about LFC. The girls were so excited to hear that they now know someone local (Im 10 minutes away) and I told them that if they ever want a home cooked meal that they just need to give me a call and Ill come get them. Im always proud to be a Forester, but tonight, Im extra proud. Im also even more excited that more Watervalians are coming to LFC.
