Highlights(?) from my hour plus conversation with CenturyLink - TopicsExpress

Highlights(?) from my hour plus conversation with CenturyLink today, when I called to ask them why (in spite of having no home phone service), our phone still rings and political pollsters are on the line. Yes, I got bored enough to take notes. 1 ) Minutes 13-16: Give Customer Service Man my account number, which he insists is missing a number. Spell my name for the Customer Service representative. Give him my husbands name. Give him our street address. Give him our mailing address. Give him our (former) phone number. Think I may have to provide a blood and/or urine sample, and the childrens blood types next. I dont know the childrens blood types, so I use this time to create punnet squares with mine and Michaels blood types so that I can at least give them some options. 2) 28 minutes into a phone call: operator tells me that I have called their number that serves the OTHER half of the state, so my number isnt in a part of the system that they can access. Which is odd, since ITS THE 800 SERVICE NUMBER WRITTEN ON MY BILL. He transfers me to the correct number. Begin process again. 3) Minutes 39-40: Customer service man #2 warms up his system. Asks me to whom he has the pleasure of speaking today. I answer. He then asks me to whom he has the pleasure of speaking today. I am so glad that I am making such an impression. 4) 52-56: Customer service man tells me that selected numbers can still be called, such as 911. We agree that it is important that we be able to dial 911, or that we can get reverse 911 calls. CSM2 then tells me that if I dont want the phone to ring, that we should unplug it from the wall. Again, we discuss the importance of 911. 5) Minutes 57-58 Customer service man tells me that he is going to have to get his floor supervisor. While he is locating her, he decides to use this opportunity to upsell me, since I am obviously in such a good mood. He asks me with whom we have our TV service. I tell him that we dont have TV, and dont want it. He tells me all about what a fantastic bundle package they have. I inform him that if he continues to speak about bundles, I predict that it will not go well for him. He tells me that he wants to try one more thing. 6) Minutes 58-1:02 Holding. CSM2 comes on and tells me that hes going to make a test call. He is thrilled when he can hear our phone ringing in the background. We DO have home phone service, and our number was changed. But we cant make calls. Discuss with CSM2 how I NEVER asked for our phone number to be changed, how I didnt authorize it, how my husband didnt authorize it, and how we DONT WANT A F8%$#&oING PHONE RINGING IN OUR HOUSE. He then agrees that we dont have home phone service. 7) Minutes 1:04- 1:15 Talk to CSM2s floor supervisor. Do not think that this will end well, or soon, for either of us. 8) Phone is now unplugged from the wall, in the outside trash. 911 be damned, and they can take CenturyLink with them.
