Highlights of Good Morning Sierra Leone Program on Radio Democracy FM 98.1-Monday 25th November, 2013 Comments by the people on the first anniversary of the second term of President Ernest Koroma • The President won over 58% of the votes • Cost of living is increasing • The road network has improved • The free healthcare scheme is commendable-has reduced child and maternal deaths • Majority of the voters who voted for the APC were youths due to the campaign promises to prioritize youth issues but the 10% budgetary allocation to youths promised has not been realized • The President said in his inauguration speech that he will dedicate his life to youths and pledged the country’s resources to the education and advancement of youths • The people are hungry • It is not too early to assess the President • Most of the enacted Bills are not in the interest of the people • Want increased facilities for workers in the provinces • Want corrupt people and those who flout the law punished • Government officials are helping themselves than the people • Government worked hard in its first term • The country is more divided than ever before • Hardship has resulted to increase lawlessness • Youths are unemployed • Most sectors have broken down • Tribalism is rife • The economy is in shambles • The President’s performance can be rated 95%-development projects are ongoing nationwide • The Freedom of Information Bill (FoI) is for everybody • The President has established the Youth Ministry and Youth Commission but he should sack non-performing Ministers • Want a review of the rent allowance • Government performance can be rated 25% • Locals are not benefiting from mining companies • The labor laws are ineffective and outdated • Government has not done much to address corruption, education and injustice • MPs and Councilors are not performing-water and electricity supply are not available • Solar lights have been installed in some parts of the country • Land agreements between foreign companies and locals are contentious • Energy and transportation are challenges
