Hijacker?! Hmmm....I think someone is calling the kettle black again. Almost 10 years of water policy with an extraction cap - SB turns up to one consultation and writes that the town is stagnating because of the cap. SB wrote to every CLP MLA and bureaucrat telling them to scrap the cap and in a meeting with a senior bureaucrat months later I discovered that the Dept Land Resource Management was planning on repealing the cap. Since then, there have been a number of key staff leave the water branch and new people have taken over. Advertisements for the Catchments Advisory Committee finished last week. I have applied for a position based on the knowledge I have gained through the Alice Springs Water Advisory Committee and my understanding of balance in sustainable resource development (something I have studied as part of my Masters degree). I have only ever acted in the best interests of Alice Springs, its people and the aquifers supplying us. SB is wrong to say I have hijacked the committee and wrong to state that environmental organisations have no place on such committees. The responsible use of our groundwater requires a diverse range of people on the committees - including traditional custodians, pastoralists, horticulturalists, industrialists, elected representatives and environmentalists. The product is the best of all inputs rather than a reinforcement of unsustainable government policy. Water is a resource for all, not just those with pecuniary interests. abc.net.au/local/stories/2014/03/20/3967927.htm?site=alicesprings
