Hiked Mt. Moriah today for my #19 and my partners #18 and holy moley does that mountain mess with your head with all of those false peaks! We were the only ones at the Bangor Street trailhead at 9AM, and ended up re-breaking trail since it looked like only one snowshoer some time this week had hiked the mountain (and thank you to whoever you are since you gave us a semblance of a trail to follow)! It was definitely strenuous re-breaking trail, especially in all of the snow that was on that mountain (up to our calves in a lot of spots), and we really wished that we had our snowshoes with us, since it was 9 miles of bare booting trail (smoothing out all of the holes we made, since holes were inevitable). We only saw one other couple hiking up to the summit as we were descending, and they were using poles and microspikes, if thats beneficial info to anyone. Much stepper than anticipated, but the views were worth it! Ended up hiking the mountain in just about 6 hours, and ate about 6K calories in pizza right after. Also, for anyone looking for great winter hiking boots, I highly recommend the Garment Momentum Snow GTX: in -26 wind chills, a high of 7 degrees, and a trail full of ankle-to-calf level snow, our feet stayed extremely cozy. Such a great investment!
