Hills People dharna starts at kalimpong demanding normalcy in the hills. Mukesh Kr Sharma, Kalimpong 29 Aug: Under the banner of Hills People, mostly the people from the Lepcha Community have finally come forward and staged a dharna demanding normalcy in the hills. Today, the ongoing Darjeeling Hills bandh have almost reached a month that started on 29 July with a few days of relaxation given in between in support of the demand of a separate state of Gorkhaland. Around 200 people both men and woman mostly from the Lepcha Community, under the banner of Hills People, today staged a dharna at Trikone Park in Kalimpong demanding the return of normalcy and restoration of peace in the hills. When asked about the dharna, the Hills People leader Mr. Nima Lepcha said that today we have staged a dharna to demand restoration of normalcy like in previous months. All spheres of life should be freed so that peace reigns fully again in the hills. When reporters asked does normalcy in his context mean withdrawing of the bandh and removal of CRPFs from the hills, Mr. Lepcha informed that we just want normal life to resume in Darjeeling Hills. At the same time he added that we are not against anybody nor against the Gorkhaland agitation.
