His Holiness Message > His Holiness Discourses Know The One And Be One The devotees are always God conscious, while a worldling is conscious only of the world. Though a devotee also lives in the world and deals with the worldly affairs, he is ever God conscious. An ignorant or a worldly person remains engrossed in the worldly affairs and the world always sways both his head and heart. Like the worldly, the devotees too live in the world and in their families and discharge their domestic and social obligations but they believe: ‘I am for God; God is all in all; He alone exists forever.’ A devotee lives in the world but knows that it is not everlasting; it is unreal, an illusion. We behold the world and the worldly phenomena with the eyes, but neither the eyes nor the world and its phenomena will last forever. On the contrary, God is eternal and those who realize God become godly. That is why holy beings are regarded as godly. How exalted is the one who realizes and makes God the mainstay of his life. Saint Kabir says,’ A stream which merges into a Ganges, turns into Ganges. A plant that grows by sandalwood smells like sandalwood. Copper that touches the philosopher’s stone, turns into gold.’ Likewise, associated with saints, Kabir has turned into a saint. That is to say, that proximity to sandal wood makes a plant imbibe its fragrance; contact with a philosopher’s stone turns copper into gold and stream or a drain merging into the river Ganges turns into Gange. Similarly by associating with saints, one turns a saint-godly. Than there remains no distinction between man and God. The devotees are giving the message: ‘Know the One and be one.’
