His Train Filled the Temple By Zelma Argue It was when young Isaiah was taking a place of utmost lowliness before the Lord that he heard the rustling of angel wings and heard them cry one to another, Holy, holy, holy! (Isaiah 6:3). It was then that the posts of the door moved at the sound, and the house was filled with a smoky cloud of divine glory. Isaiah says, His train filled the temple (6:1). And while Isaiah was crying out to God of his own unworthiness — his own lips were unclean, his people were unclean — his eyes were permitted to see the King, the Lord of hosts. Do we today retain such a deep sense of our own unworthiness? Do we hold steadfastly the vision glorious of a throne, high and lifted up, and recognize that His train (or robe) fills the temple? At no time am I more conscious of the rustle of His robes — of His train filling the temple — than when some hungering and thirsting soul is being filled with the Holy Spirit. What a hush this brings before the holiness of the Lord! And what a swelling, bursting joy follows! It is then the heart melts, and the shining tears emerge. Oh, may we so cherish this precious occurrence that it shall not depart from our tents, leaving us desolate! That we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith are the wonderful words of Galatians 3:14. We need to ponder them well. It is easy to make some remark that kills faith and that requires no faith to make. Anyone can make a statement to the effect that the power of God is not in evidence as it used to be — but does saying this require any exercise of faith? And did you ever know of such a remark and such an attitude bringing about a fresh moving of the Holy Spirit? Remember the promise of the Spirit is received through faith! If we would see the Spirit move afresh today we must teach our lips to utter words of faith. We must set a guard upon our lips that they utter no words of unbelief and discouragement.
