Historian Paul Johnson notes in his History of the American People - TopicsExpress

Historian Paul Johnson notes in his History of the American People that the diverse views of colonial America, whether the religious puritans of New England, the capitalist entrepreneurs of the mid-Atlantic, and the farmers and plantation owners of the south all had one common thread that bound them together; the rule of law. No man, no matter how pious, wealthy, or how much land was greater than the law that ruled them all. That was the beating heart of Americas unique (and also unfinished) brand of individualism and equality. Everyone was equally accountable and subject to the law. There was no privileged class. I feel that we are losing that vital concept. This is what is most concerning about our modern political and social climate. At least in my limited and small opinion.
