History Bites: Nawab Siddiq Hassan Khan (1832-1890). He governed the State of Bhopal (India) on behalf of the Queen (Begum) Shah Jahan. He was a great scholar of Islamic sciences, specialising in tafseer, hadith, language and history. He provided patronage to a number of hadith scholars to settle in India and teach the Prophetic Tradition there. Shaikh Hussain bin Mohsin al-Ansaari al-Yamaani (mufti of Yemen) was one of the scholars who had settled in Bhopal due to this patronage. The light of hadith sciences spread throughout India due the Nawabs support. Nawab Siddiq Hassan Khan had written over 200 books in Arabic, Persian and Urdu, many of which were distributed free of charge throughout India. His books were also published in Turkey and Egypt. The famous commentary on Sahih al-Bukhari written by Ibn al-Hajar al-Asqalaani was printed and sent to the Ulama free of charge by the Nawab. Please see Saeedullah Khans biography of the Nawab for more details...may Allah have mercy on his soul, ameen...
