History Repeats..... To anyone who knows anything about American History, (which excludes 99% of elected right wing representatives to congress, who, despite claiming to “love” the USA, know diddlysquat about the country they purport to “love”), the current controversies about Gun Power and Anti Gay Power, are an exact duplicate of the controversies over the Slave Power in the years leading up to the Civil War. What I mean by this, is that in both eras, as reformers and progressive activists became stronger and more ardent in their opposition to these regressive injustices, the Old Guard, sensing, and threatened by the tide of history they saw about to overwhelm them, became more intent on holding back that tide by becoming yet more stubborn in not merely defending the Slave Power, but in Extending it, Strengthening it, and Enforcing it, all over the country, just as their heirs today are doing in the roiling national battles over Gays and Guns and “God”. Only a numbed human being would it expect a different ultimate resolution today from back then.
