Hites Cove Poppies Yesterday my wife Claudia and I walked up - TopicsExpress

Hites Cove Poppies Yesterday my wife Claudia and I walked up the beginning of the Hites Cove Trail (in the Merced River Canyon west of Yosemite). I’m always looking for patterns, and found this zigzag design on the steep hillside above the trail. This is one of the few situations where I’ve used straight-on frontlight. I usually prefer soft light (shade or overcast) for colorful subjects like this, but direct frontlight is the next-best thing, since the light is even and nearly shadowless. And since poppies only open when they’re in the sun, frontlight is sometimes the best option. The poppies and redbuds have both progressed nicely since I last checked on Sunday, and the poppies along the Hites Cove Trail are near their peak. For a full report, and my thoughts about how the forecast rain next week might affect the flowers, see my latest blog post: michaelfrye/landscape-photography-blog/2014/03/20/hites-cove-poppies/ #landscapephotography #flowers #wildflowers #poppies
