Hitting the theaters on July 17 2015, it seems Marvel Studios has the art department working to provide promotional content early bells, but we all know that’s how Marvel rolls. The banner discloses Yellow Jackets secondary set of arms, which are organic looking, which makes sense considering they are the invention of biochemist Darren Cross. He is also clad in a full-body suit, which is black with smaller contrasting yellows. In the movie the character Cross, who is played by Corey Stoll (The Strain), is a rival scientist/businessman who eventually becomes Yellow Jacket. There are slight differences from the comic book, as the original Yellow Jacket was an evil robot created by Pym, and Pym himself becomes Yellow Jacket at one point. Subsequently, there have been several incarnations of the Yellow menace; a central cause of evil throughout myriad story-arcs. Stoll has said that Yellow Jacket is second-generation technology of Pym’s original Ant-Man suit, stating that “It can do anything Ant-Man can do, and then more.” Which puts Ant-Man in a tight spot figuratively and metaphorically, as he will be the weaker of the two with technology providing super strength whilst simultaneously reducing their size. This leaves a lot of room for the imagination to run wild (think of a Mavel Studios version of Honey I Shrunk The Kids), and it makes Ant-Man sound all the more exciting and visually appealing as the promotional campaign kicks off. It isn’t known whether Marvel planned for the release of the image or not, however, the fact it features Yellow Jacket, hints that Stoll is going to be a big part of the marketing campaign, so we may see more of him in a trailer closer to the actual release date. Personally, I think the less we see of him before the film the better. However, the banner has Stoll’s Yellow Jacket out on display for all to see in his full glory. So it seems that the marketing strategy is to have Stoll right up there on the frontline with Rudd’s Ant-Man. It’s a bold move, but it suggests that Peyton Reed and co have plenty more up their sleeves if this is the marketing strategy they are going with. Do you like the look of Yellow Jacket? Do you think he looks formidable and menacing enough? Has there been too much of a reveal? Let us know your thoughts people. Opening on July 17, 2015 and starring Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña and Judy Greer. Ant-Man was directed by Peyton Reed, and is the final film in Marvel’s Phase Two (it seems more like a phase 3 movie, but given the who Civil-War story Ant-Man is acting as the book-end of phase 2).
