Hmm what do you all think? Any truth to this? Personally my favourite books are written by Tom Holt and James Redfield, so I wouldnt say I fit in with this statistic. Dont get me wrong I enjoy some Sophie Kinsella books as well, but theyre more a secondary preference than a primary one. I do admit I think Sophie Kinsella books are primarily aimed at female readers, but theyre quite lighthearted, and sit well within the chick lit category, so thats her target audience. As a child my favourite books were a mixture - Enid Blyton and Michael Ende featured within my favourite authors, also Roald Dahl, Francine Pascal, Tolkien and so on - I didnt really sway more towards one gender or the other. A good writer should try to appeal to everyone. Ive tried to make Wolf Born engaging for both males and females. True enough, the story follows Carly, but shes not the only lead character, theres also Kyle, and I tried to avoid writing anything too stereotypical or cliched. What about you? Are your favourite books written primarily by male or female authors?
